4 Day Week Studio is a consultancy and digital workspace for organizations designing and trialing 4-day workweeks. It’s run by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang, author of Shorter: Work Better Smarter and Less—Here’s How, and designer of national 4-day week trials in the UK, US, Australia, and elsewhere.

What is the 4-Day Week?

Organizations that adopt a 4-day week reduce working hours for all staff, without cutting salaries, or sacrificing output, revenue, client service, etc. Thousands of companies, nonprofits, and government agencies around the world have made the transition. They include professional services, startups, hospital departments, manufacturers, law firms, restaurants, pest control, nonprofits, social services, and others. Some have been operating on a 4-day week for years; a few have been doing it for decades.

There are many ways to implement a 4-day week. In the simplest model, the organization closes for three days a week. In other cases (like nursing homes and police departments), operating hours remain the same, and shifts are redesigned, people rotate days off, or workdays are shortened.

The 4-day week benefits people and organizations alike. For people, an extra day off gives them more time with family, time to rest and recharge, and allows them to be more fully present at work and home. Organizations see dramatic improvements in recruitment and retention, and lower levels of burnout; implementing a 4-day week also forces organizations to improve their processes, technology use, internal communications, and helps them be more efficient and resilient.

Shaping the 4-day week since 2020!

Courses

We’ve worked with hundreds of organizations around the world, ranging from tiny Web design studios to large hospitals, and have built up a deep network of alumni. This allows us to now offer courses that address the specific needs and issues of particular industries and professions.

You can also fill out our readiness assessment tool to better understand whether your organization is ready to start a 4-day week trial, and where you can focus your efforts to prepare.

Consulting

We offer consulting with organizations whose schedules or complexities require a more bespoke approach.

With these engagements, we design workshops that bring together our unique expertise; bring in special technical, organizational, or legal expertise from across our network; and work with boards and other stakeholders to build consensus for a 4-day week trial.
